Crowd Control

Crowd Control

Crowd control refers to a type of security service used in places where large groups of people assemble and where security can be compromised by any of a number of factors. These factors include general misdemeanor, alcohol abuse, drug abuse, theft, or violence which can occur amidst the crowd in the middle of an event.

Crowds are challenging to manage due to the sheer number of people involved, the difficulty of monitoring everyone, and the phenomena which social psychologists dub as crowd behavior which basically means that the crowd – depending on the type of event and the kinds of people in it – can behave differently as a group (which explains riot).

Security Guards Crowd Control

Crowd control security guards, also called crowd controllers, make it their duty to ensure that the crowd behavior remains peaceful. This they do by observing and detecting tell-tale signs of mischief, and addressing it before it escalates to the point where it disrupts the event or hurt others.

Depending on the event, crowd control devices can be put in place. These make the crowd controllers’ lives easier, at least in keeping the crowd within a certain perimeter or space where security officers can keep them secure. Some crowd control devices being used in venues include crowd control barriers (or crowd control fencing), temporary fencing (also called portable fencing), stanchions, etc.

If you’re hosting a public event such as a party, social dance, concert, parade, etc., or a private gathering such as a wedding, debut, funeral, graduation party, engagement party, celebration, etc. where you anticipate more than fifty people attending, you should consider hiring a security company that can provide you with security solutions for your event. This is especially crucial in events where there will be lots of strangers coming together in numbers approaching 100 people or more.

In such events, crowd controllers will be present to maintain the peace. Their visibility in every entryway and in key locations within a venue will be a surefire way of stopping any mischief from happening. Crowd controllers are trained to detect signs of trouble before it begins, so you can be assured that they are always on top of the situation when troubles arise. They do patrol services during an event to make sure they see a complete visual of the crowd.

How to Crowd Control

Crowd controllers are also effective security personnel that stop trouble from starting within the crowd and prevent trouble from getting inside the crowd. They maintain access control of all entrances and exits to make sure only invited guests get inside the venue, or, if entrance is free, that the guests are fit to join the event. By doing access control, crowd control security guards can root out those individuals who are carrying firearms, deadly weapons, drugs, and other prohibited things.
